ABOUT US
January 15, 2019
Dear Cornerstone Family,
It is with great sadness for me to announce that our high school department will be closing after this school year after twenty-one great years.
God’s plans always supersedes our plans. When the 501 Cambridge campus was available and eventually sold to the church, the leadership knew God was nudging us to begin a high school. In the fall of 1999, Cornerstone Academy expanded to 9th grade with a class of under 30 students most of whom were recent 8th grade graduates from Cornerstone Academy.
The high school had very humble beginnings, but with a dedicated church and school administration, faculty, and student body along with God’s guidance and blessings, the school had gained a small niche in the San Francisco private school scene. Not as large or established as some of the other local high schools, we held our own academically sending our students prepared to prestigious four-year colleges and universities. We were a small Christian high school that provided opportunities for our students that may not have been possible in other schools.
Many factors outside of our control led the board to the very difficult decision of closing the high school and to allow CEBC and Cornerstone Academy to refocus on the preschool, elementary and middle school grades at all of our campuses. It is hard to believe that something God started is closing, but in my experience, when God closes a door, He often leads organizations and individuals on to greater things. These situations reminds me of a foundational bible verse we teach all of our students: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all of your ways submit to Him and He will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6)
We would like to thank everyone, past and present, and the alumnus for the dedication and hard work you put into the high school. Do not worry, the Class of 2019 will be business as usual as we look forward to celebrating their achievements at graduation in May and the remaining students will be well taken care of as we will assist them in transferring to another high school.
